Even though it’s almost physically painful to post a gift guide before folks in the U.S. have sat down to Thanksgiving dinner, this new world is wild and weird so here we are: it’s time for wayward’s gift guides for 2021. In “normal” times I always advocate for taking trips in lieu of gift-giving, but that is mostly off the table for the time being. So for now I’m focusing on gifts that provide more value than their cost implies; these are items intended to bring the recipient time, comfort, and delight (and maybe can help get them on their way when it comes time to travel again).
While each of this year’s gift guides may be categorized, the truth is the gifts below will appeal to a broad audience and range of identities – there may even be something for your most difficult-to-shop-for relative. As much as I hate to say it, it’s probably best to place orders sooner rather than later due to the you-know-what issues, so without further ado, here are my top picks for him:

GIFTS FOR HIM
1. A Durable Carryall Tote. This bag does it all – it’s roomy enough to hold all of their stuff for an overnight stay, and that ever-important laptop. The handles and crossbody strap make it easy to carry, and with a pair of interior pockets, they won’t lose anything to its depths.
2. Dishes They’ll Want to Wash. If there’s such a thing as “status dishes”, these dishes from Asheville-based East Fork are status dishes. I own a few EF pieces, and I catch myself reaching for them over my others. They’re incredibly durable and they’re dishwasher-safe, for the accident-prone and handwashing-averse. Plus by buying a bundle, you’ll save a bundle.
3. A Snuggly Henley. Made of organic cotton, this cozy henley is ready to go out or stay in – whichever their heart desires. It comes in four colorways, but I’m partial to this earthy Umber color.
4. A DIY Screenprinting Kit.* Many of my gift guides this year contain do-it-yourself items because I think there is so much satisfaction in creating something with your own two hands. I especially like the idea of making garments, as it’s so fun to respond “Oh, I made this” when someone asks where you got it. This screenprinting kit seems like a fun activity – just be sure to throw in a couple of tees as well to complete the gift.
5. A Pair of Cool Sneakers. What a sleek, cool pair of kicks. These toe the line between modern and old-school, and they are beautifully made. I especially like that the branding is kept to a minimum – it’s nice to not feel like a walking advertisement, you know? [save 20% with code WAYWARD20]
6. Status Candles.* This set is a perennial favorite in my household (Feu de Bois is a favorite at this time of year), and I think that more people are turning to candles as a way to create a retreat in their homes. This sampler set is a great introduction to nicer candles, and you can even divvy up the set and gift them individually.
7. A Base Layer. I may be projecting solely based on my experience with my partner, but it has been incredibly difficult to get him to purchase the right base layers and undergarments and it’s something I often end up buying for him. I get that they’re not as exciting as cool sneakers or fun jackets, but they’re meant to keep you comfortable and warm! If your recipient is the same way, why not give ’em a hand?
8. A Solid-Choice Membership. This gift keeps on giving. While the brand recently changed its business model so that customers no longer need a membership to shop, the membership is still an incredible value. For just $60, they’ll receive $120 in credit over the course of the year, and many other benefits too (and hey, if you gift it to your partner, maybe you can convince them to add a few things to the order for yourself *wink*).
9. An Ultra-Modern Growhouse. A plant-killer’s savior. This wall-mountable growhouse can be paired with the Modern Sprout app to program light settings for their plant babies. I also really love the industrial vibe, and think it pairs so interestingly with delicate plants.
