Sharing an honest review of ABLE's Maha Leather Jacket, along with an exclusive discount code for readers

I am absolutely reveling in the autumn weather, so today I’m bringing you a review of an essential Fall wardrobe piece: the leather jacket.

Well, not just any leather jacket. A warm, toasty, nutty leather jacket that practically begs to be worn in an apple orchard while doing all the cinnamon-scented fall things.

ABLE generously gifted this jacket, however, this post is not sponsored and all opinions are my own. This post contains affiliate links and I may receive a small commission if you make a purchase after clicking one of these links (at no additional cost to you!). Thank you for your support!

On the hunt for your signature leather jacket? Today I’m sharing my thoughts and helpful tips for choosing the right size and styling this classic version from ABLE after several months of wear: the Maha Leather Jacket.

ABOUT THE MAHA LEATHER JACKET

As always, ABLE’s products are designed with people and the planet in mind

The Maha Leather Jacket is a moto or biker jacket with a slightly cropped silhouette, asymmetrical zipper, and minimalist hardware. It comes in two colorways: Black and Whiskey. I surprised myself by being drawn not to the Black leather jacket, but the warm Whiskey. It’s just the most perfect, cozy color, and it fits in with my mostly neutral wardrobe effortlessly. [Edit: I am nothing if not a creature of habit—I later added the black jacket to my wardrobe!].

The jacket is made in India and is constructed of 100% lamb leather with a 100% polyester lining. As with all things ABLE, this jacket is designed with quality materials in mind without sacrificing the health, safety, and wages of the workers who bring it to life.

MAHA LEATHER JACKET SIZING

The Maha Leather Jacket is available in sizes XXS-3X, and runs true to size—however, it’s not true to the vanity sizing we’re so used to seeing at many retailers these days. ABLE recommends taking your usual size for a slim fit, and sizing up for more comfort when layering. The latter is what I suggest, giving you a bit more room in the arms, shoulders, and body for all the cute Fall sweaters. I landed on a Medium (for reference, my measurements are here), and it fits like a dream: close enough to the body when I’m wearing a thin layer underneath, but mercifully not sausage-like when I’m wearing a bulkier layer.

As always, I find it helpful to review a brand’s returns and exchanges information before checking out—especially when purchasing such a precious item (thankfully ABLE makes it pretty easy!).

FABRIC + HARDWARE

The Maha Leather Jacket is a very minimalist style, with little hardware

The Maha Leather Jacket is made of an ultra-soft, supple lamb leather—by far the softest in my collection of suede and leather jackets. It drapes and moves beautifully, with none of that plasticky, squeaking sound when you shift your arms (you know the sound I’m talking about, right? That horrible eek-eek-eek sound, like nails on a chalkboard?).

The hardware is a subdued gunmetal and is kept to an absolute minimum. There are no extra buckles, zips, or clasps—the only hardware on this jacket is the front zipper closure, zipper vents at the wrists, and snaps at the lapel. All are easy to secure, with smooth gliding zippers and snaps that stay shut. To me, this minimal hardware ensures the longevity of this jacket. By eschewing trendy accents, ABLE has crafted a garment that can stand the test of time.

STYLING THE MAHA LEATHER JACKET

[side note: does anyone actually wear their jackets like this in real life?]
To me, a good leather jacket is a chameleon. It’s easy to throw on over the rest of your outfit and seamlessly matches its energy (I like to think of a leather jacket as a denim jacket for cold weather!). A white tee, blue jeans, and your favorite sneakers? Toss on a leather jacket, and you’ve amplified that classic, laidback look.

Wearing all black everything? This stunning Whiskey color softens the look while retaining its edge. Dressing up for date night? A leather jacket adds a bit of tension to a too-soft dress.

IS ABLE’S LEATHER JACKET WORTH IT?

Owning an item in multiples? Now that’s the sign of a worth-it garment.

At $398, the Maha Leather Jacket feels like an investment.

But while the price appears steep at first, it’s not significantly higher than similar styles from fast fashion brands—not to mention the quality is beyond compare. And in a Goldilocks fit (not too oversized, not too tiny, just right) with purely functional hardware, it’s about as timeless of a style as you can get. In my opinion, it’s one of the best options on the market at or around its price point, doubly so thanks to ABLE’s commitment to people and planet. But if it helps:

An exclusive ABLE promo code

I’m thrilled to share that ABLE generously provided a discount code for readers!

You can save 20% on the Maha Leather Jacket or just about anything else with code WAYWARD20. For my non-math friends (hey there, kindred spirits!), that brings the total to $318.40.

FINAL THOUGHTS ON THE MAHA LEATHER JACKET

As garment quality continues to decline across contemporary clothing brands, it’s honestly so refreshing to see ABLE continue to produce carefully crafted goods at a fair price point (for all involved). This is a hardworking piece that feels so luxurious to wear, and I’m excited for the chance to wear it for many years (or perhaps decades!) to come.

    1. I feel like leather jackets are so practical, that I don’t mind having more than one!

At 5’4″ the sleeves are a smidge long on me (with my arms by my sides, it hits around mid-thumb), but I’ve grown so used to long sleeves it’s almost hard to fathom what it would feel like otherwise! And mercifully, they’re not too snug in the arms so I can layer a sweater underneath.
