Happy Saturday! As all of our office said yesterday as we were leaving work, we made it.
The students returned to campus this week, and while I love the vibrancy of a college campus during the first few days of classes, I am beat! Michael and I plan on having a fairly quiet but productive weekend, doing more trip planning and blog writing, and ending the weekend with a family dinner at what is arguably Florida’s fanciest restaurant, Bern’s Steak House.

Other than reading loads about Mexico City’s museums and restaurants, here is what else we’ve been up to this week:
Life
This article really struck home for me: Why it’s OK if Your Passion isn’t Your Full-Time Thing Right Now.
Though it’s already received a bit of criticism, I may tune in for an episode or two of a new Netflix series filmed in Mexico City. I can’t stomach reality shows for too long, but we’ll have already traveled there by the time it airs and it’s nice to recognize places on the small screen.

Food
These freeze pops were a huge part of my childhood (and they make the rounds at our events on the college campus where I work), but I just can’t bring myself to buy or eat them now due to the ingredients/all the plastic—but this was still a fascinating read!

Travel
Sonoma, without the wine (gifted NYT article)? It’s possible to visit my favorite of the two most well-known California wine regions without drinking a drop of wine.
In case you need some skincare inspo for an upcoming flight, here’s a very involved routine (site closed). As for me, I just slather on a little extra moisturizer and keep a lip balm handy.

Style
If I had an extra $600 around… Well, I’d probably buy a plane ticket. But if I had another $600 lying around (or like a gift card or something?) I’d probably pick up this weekender bag.
Currently reading: Dress [with] Sense which is a great intro to ethical/sustainable/conscious fashion and also includes lots of information about working with what you already have. I think I’m a little further along on my slow fashion journey than the audience the book is intended for, but I appreciate the reminder nonetheless.
Things I bought this week
Ouch. It was a big-spend week in our household, particularly with the purchase of a new (to us) Fujifilm camera. Still, I look forward to having a nice, more compact camera than our DSLR to use when traveling.
Perhaps less exciting, I ordered quite a bit of Everlane this week, with the bulk consisting of long-sleeve tees and one of their new “clean silk pieces.” I currently have two (non-sweater) long-sleeve tops in my wardrobe, and I’d like to add another one or two before we leave for our trips to Mexico City and Europe as the mercury should drop in the evenings. Everything has been so hit-or-miss lately from Everlane that I only end up keeping a small portion of what I order so a few things will likely go back.
I also picked up this grey tee* from Atlanta-based Alternative Apparel (via Nordstrom). It has been a struggle to find an ethically-made, non-heathered grey tee!
It was also time to add a few things to my home and travel toiletries: I picked up a new hand sanitizer from Aesop, a new lotion from Kiehl’s (one liter lasts about two years!), and I’m trying out a small powder compact*.
To update from last week, I kept the Only Child Sweater (I love it so much!), I returned the Everlane City Anorak as it was massive, and sadly the Elizabeth Suzann Clydes I was wanting so badly did not work out – if you have a spare size 4R cotton black Clydes, I’m your gal!
No matter what you are up to this weekend, here’s a gentle reminder to take a little time for self-care. You are oh-so totally worth it.
Have a great weekend!
