Happy, Happy Weekend!

Michael and I are home this weekend, and I’m taking Monday off as well (I have some personal leave to burn before the end of the week, or I’ll lose it).

Today we’re headed to the gym (my favorite class is on Saturday mornings, which is great because otherwise I’d be tempted to skip it!), and then later we’ll meet up with my family to go boating in a nearby river or maybe head to Bob’s River Place. I’ve never been, but it’s quite legendary apparently, and feels very Florida.

As for the rest of the weekend, we’ve just made plans to visit some friends up in Charlotte for the July 4th weekend, and we’ll probably work through some road-trip logistics. What are you up to this weekend? (Well, other than reading these links, of course!):

Travel

Headed to Paris? Here’s a helpful guide to the Vélib bike share system.

How to leave the most unwanted souvenir behind.

This trip looks pretty amazing (and honestly that’s not a bad price).

You can now add your pronouns to your Lyft account (here’s how). I don’t support the corporate rainbow-washing that’s suddenly occurring just because it’s Pride Month, but I am on board with this if it can make rides safer for trans- and non-binary riders.

Life & Home

What happens when you drop 17,000 wallets around the world?

An author on why she left social media at the top of her game. The fact that she found herself thinking in Tweets is frightening; I’m curious how much technology has really rewired our brains.

This just feels so gross and exploitative.

A ranking of all the Netflix Originals. Who knew there were so many?

Food

A post worth its salt.

The history of the Zodiac paper placemats in Chinese-American restaurants.

Our Vitamix container leaked into the electrical housing earlier this week, and while looking up warranty information and repair tips online, I kind of veered off course and ended up deep-diving into the weird wonderful world of electric kitchen unitaskers on Amazon. Are your bowls all dirty? Just make a waffle bowl and eat all of your meals in that! Tired of boring old hot dogs? Make corn dogs at home in a pan that looks suspiciously like this churro maker. Annoyed with having a perfectly clean kitchen? Just use this home-sized cotton candy machine to cover literally every surface with sticky sugar!

Perhaps Michael is on to something… this is what he always orders.

This writer must be trolling because Apple Jacks are the best cereal ever, okay?

Drooling over these made-to-order beauties (site closed).

Has anyone tried this hair-lightening spray? My hair color is changing as I age, and it might be fun to try lightening it a bit (but I’m also a little afraid since my hair is virgin hair!).

Things I bought this week

I’m clearly hard at work on purchasing items from my wish list! I was scrolling through Poshmark last night and a brand new wide purse strap from Cuyana popped up. I made an offer and it was accepted, and that was that!

I also ordered this brand-new black bodysuit from an eBay seller. All bodysuits from Aritzia are final sale and we don’t have one nearby; rather than getting stuck with a potentially ill-fitting bodysuit for $50, I made an offer for half of that on eBay and it was accepted. I figure if it doesn’t work out, I can probably sell it for about the same amount.

Finally, I ordered this braided belt from Nisolo as it is included in their sale (and if you think you’ve seen this belt before on this blog, you’d be right). According to the size chart, I’d need a small – which they are sold out of – but this style of belt can be fastened anywhere along the length, so a medium should be just fine.

What are you up to this weekend? What fun water sites are located near you?
