Happy Saturday (or rather, #Caturday, as we’re headed over to my parents’ house later today to cat-sit for their two new kittens)!

It’s been a blissfully-unexciting week around here, and Michael and I are soaking it in. I don’t even imagine we’ll feel the Sunday Scaries tomorrow, as we’re only working three days this week – and heading up to visit friends in Charlotte over the holiday weekend (and if you have any Charlotte tips, please send them our way!).

Blog-wise, I’m happy to share that I finally got my act together to launch a newsletter! I’ll share more about it on Monday (and psst… there will be a giveaway!), but if you want to get in on the action early you can sign up on the right sidebar/at the bottom of the page depending on if you are viewing on a desktop/mobile. Right away you’ll receive my top fifty travel tips, and moving forward, a newsletter every couple of weeks.

Other than that, here’s what I’ve been reading online this week:

Travel

How to (properly) drink on an airplane.

Some thoughts on wearing shorts in Paris.

And with that, how European cities are coping with this heatwave.

I always love reading Rachel’s stories about traveling full-time (especially because they’re not the “utterly glamorous” ones you usually see).

Is gravy a liquid? Chrissy Teigen finds out if gravy is TSA-approved.

Previously… Two years ago I wrote about one of my favorite travel meals ever and what it was like to go to the emergency room in Italy. Last year I published my first Journal post (HBD, Journals!) and wrote about our time spent in Destin, Florida, and what I packed.

Food

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list is out. We’ve dined at two of the winning restaurants (Noma, and more recently, Pujol) – have you visited any? Do you agree with their choices?

Next time strawberries go on sale, this is what I’ll be making!

Did your favorite coffee shop make the cut?

Life & Home

I go through nesting periods where I find myself suddenly wanting to spruce up my home, and though right now is not one of those moments (we’ll probably move out of our month-to-month rental in the next few months), I’m bookmarking Geneva’s tips for updating a space without spending a cent.

Beat the heat with these film picks for July… (site no longer available)

…or this summer reading list!

I think dropping my Prime subscription was a good thing. This is all too much.

Style

A new kind of wardrobe challenge: Katie embraces her current wardrobe by choosing a different “fantasy outfit” each day (site closed).

Huh.

Get ready.

Things I bought this week

Product image of shoe from Everlane

Earlier this week Everlane offered free two-day shipping on all orders, and as it happened, credit from a previous return just finished processing in time.

Unfortunately, my size in a lot of things was out of stock, so looking ahead to fall I placed an order for the Boss Loafers, which are part of the Choose What You Pay sale. They won’t arrive until Monday, so I can’t share any feedback, but I’m hopeful that they will be a great alternative to my Modern Loafers, which I love but sometimes feel heavy or clunky due to the heel.
