Happy Weekend! If you’re based in the U.S., are you off of work on Monday? Are there some people in your household who are off (of work or school), and others who are not? There are a few days throughout the year like Veteran’s Day where I’m off and Michael has to work – and it feels so weird! It certainly makes it tough to travel…

…But we still have time for a day trip! Tomorrow we’re headed to Amelia Island, just south of the Georgia border on the Atlantic coast. Every year they host a large petanque tournament, a sport we first watched while in the south of France a few years ago. Funnily enough, we do own a set of boules but have not had time to play. Perhaps this will inspire us to start a game in our backyard once we return!
Other than brushing up on the rules of petanque, here’s what else I’ve been reading this week:
Food & Life
Though we ordered an “individual” share from our local CSA, Michael and I are struggling to get through all of the veggies in our box each week and we’ve had to get a little creative to eat them all. Thankfully there is a plethora of recipes out there – including this sweet potato and okra curry, which we made Monday night and enjoyed over several days.
The Luxe Strategist breaks down how she lived on a $58k salary in NYC. Reading her blog always inspires me to save more (even though travel is always calling!).
There are a lot of things to be saddened by, in terms of the recent U.S. election results. Here are reasons to celebrate.

Travel
Andrea shares her picks for comfortable business travel clothing.
We just finished up a can of maple syrup from our trip to Montreal last year, and it got me curious about the can’s instantly recognizable design. Here’s a further look into the design, though the artist is still unknown!
Heading to Bogotá? Eater’s city guides are always a great place to start when planning a trip; here’s their new guide for Colombia’s capital city.

Style
A fascinating and eye-opening look at how far the arts still need to go to be truly inclusive [NYT Gifted Article].
I’m fawning over all of the vintage silk and muted tones in this Etsy shop and also over Tradlands’ new bandanas!
You may have noticed that most of the brands I include on this blog are “slow fashion” brands (or at least you may have noticed that much of what I choose to feature isn’t brands like H&M or Forever 21). Curious about this part of the fashion world? Here’s a brief introduction to slow fashion.
With that said, I’m curious to see where this brand-new slow-fashion blog is headed. [now shuttered]
A few sales are going on this weekend, in case you’re in the market for something new! Need Supply [now shuttered] is offering 11% off all orders (even on brands that never go on sale, like Aesop) in honor of Singles Day (11/11 – get it?). ABLE is holding a weekend sale on their top-selling Mamuye Classic Tote (hello, weekend bag!), plus you can always save with my exclusive ABLE code found here. M. Gemi is currently offering $50 off all styles of shoes, including their best-known style, the Stellato. And finally – today only, Nordstrom is offering a buy-two-get-one-free deal on all of their mascaras here (including brands that rarely go on sale!).
things I bought this week
What an eclectic assortment of things I bought this week. Earlier in the week Terrain offered free shipping, so I took advantage of the discount to go ahead and order Christmas gifts for my family. I bought two of these Wool Stadium Cushions for my baseball-loving grandparents, some Natural Bug Repellent Soap for my outdoorsy dad, and this wearable Fire Starter and Compass Tool for my also outdoorsy brother. As Amazon is the 5% cash back category on my Discover card (that’s my referral link for a $50 statement credit, just in case you’re considering), I’m trying to order what I can from there to take advantage. For my soon-to-be-fifteen-year-old brother, I selected The Driving Book (and I plan on staying off the road for a while!). I also ordered a set of Assorted Greeting Cards to have on hand, as my current stash has been depleted. It’s so nice to just pull a card from a stack each time I need one, rather than having to make a run for the drugstore. Palo Santo is something I’ve never used before, but I think I will enjoy the ritual of lighting it in my home. Lastly, Everlane offered all of their denim for $50 on Wednesday, and Michael and I both ordered two pairs of jeans. He picked two colors of the Athletic Fit Jeans and I ordered both the Authentic Stretch High-Rise Skinny Ankle Jean (which I own and love in black) and the Authentic Stretch High-Rise Cigarette Ankle Jean (which I hope to bleach to a lighter color if they fit well). I’ll likely do a fit try-on in my Instagram stories once they arrive (according to the tracking, that should occur on Wednesday, but you know how these things go).
If you’re in the U.S., please remember to thank a veteran for their service this weekend!
