Happy Saturday!

Brrr… it’s cold here today (I thought this was supposed to be Florida?), and we’re about to head over to our old place to finish the cleaning process so we can be officially moved out. That’s probably the thing I hate most about moving: having to clean your old place when you’re still trying to clean and unpack things in your new one.

It shouldn’t take more than a few hours at least, and I’m working hard to focus on the positive aspects of this situation. Then we can move on to enjoying the rest of our weekend!

This crumpet recipe is usually my go-to for using my unfed sourdough starter, but I may have to swap in this cracker recipe now and then (and I’ve also totally gone down the rabbit hole on this site!).

What it’s like to dine at an inaccessible restaurant when you are in a wheelchair. With even a few minor changes (such as clearing paths to tables, adding ramps by the front entrance, and offering height-appropriate bars and hostess tables), restaurants could better serve all diners.

This French cookie is bookmarked in my “to make” folder (and I suspect they might be made very, very soon!).

That being said, a bit of our weekend will be consumed by making bagels. We’ll see if I still feel like baking more things after making bagels in our new tiny oven!

Things I bought this week

 

This week I finally placed my first Tradlands order after hearing so many positive things about the fit of their button-downs. I ordered the 101 Girlfriend Oxford Shirt primarily to wear to work but also perhaps with jeans and sneakers on the weekend, as well as the Highland Sleeveless Essential Shirt to wear under sweaters or alone and tied at the waist (well, alone with pants, of course). Sadly the fit just wasn’t right for my curvier frame, so I’ll likely be listing them over on my Poshmark or the STSF Instagram. I also ordered my first Le Labo item, their Hinoki Hand Soap, after reading so much about the Hinoki tree in this book. And last weekend we visited our city’s first zero-waste shop, (which I’m really excited about!) and I picked up this Organic Cotton Lunch Bag to replace my cooler-style bag. I don’t really believe that replacing my current multi-use items with “zero waste” items is sustainable, but my lunch bag has been on its last leg for several months now. So far, so good – this cotton bag is machine-washable and is a decent size for carrying my breakfast and lunch for the day. My only complaint is that my sleeve has gotten caught in the velcro several times, and I think I would have preferred a sturdy zipper closure.
