Hello from the road!

It’s early and Michael and I are currently headed to the airport to fly a new-to-us airline (Sun Country) to a new-to-us city (Minneapolis). We’ve got a lot to look forward to our weekend in the Twin Cities, like biking, baseball, burgers, and beer – and much of it thanks to a kind reader who compiled a mega-list of things to do.

Are you going anywhere this weekend, or are you taking a staycation? In either case, here’s some reading for the three-day weekend ahead:

Travel

I see this a lot when we travel: the photo sessions, the outfit changes, the manufactured moments. It’s all so very boring.

Although this fascinates – and kind of disgusts – me.

Have you completed the New York Times’ travel-themed crossword?

Changing the face of hiking: the (literal) trail-blazers who are addressing the lack of diversity in the great outdoors.

Previously on wayward: Two years ago we were staying in Miami and eating all the things in Montreal; last year I shared my travel makeup routine.

I don’t often laugh out loud when reading things online alone, but this comic warranted a chuckle.

Oh, no. This recipe seems so, so dangerous.

Life & Home

Karin dives into how bloggers make money. In case you’re curious, I use affiliate links on Wayward (though I do not utilize advertisements). Many people don’t know that running a blog costs money – hosting fees, domain name fees, and any special equipment/software are just a few common expenses. If you click an affiliate link on my blog and purchase an item from that retailer, I make a small percentage of that sale (without costing you an extra cent). And the truth is, this blog is running at about cost-neutral; I make just enough in affiliate income to cover my hosting fees and maybe my monthly Photoshop subscription, but not always. Everything else you see – anything in my packing list posts and any places we go or stay – is all paid for by Michael and myself via our day jobs. So, seriously, thank you – I so appreciate any time a purchase is made via one of my links because each dollar that doesn’t go toward running this site can go toward travel and products to review.

How VSCO makes those filters.

Agreed.

Style

& Other Stories just released a sustainable collection titled “Ode to the Ocean” comprised of recycled fibers. My favorites are these cotton/linen shorts and this event-ready jumpsuit. I applaud this step in the right direction!

Nothing in this Etsy shop is as expected – and I absolutely love that (except the name gives me a little pause, hah!).

I am kind of all over this jumpsuit

2019 MDW Sale Alert!

There are really too many to list, and if you’re like me, your inbox has been filling up with sale alerts since Wednesday. Here is my carefully edited list of favorite deals:

Things I bought this week

Just two, though I’ve been soooo tempted by all of these MDW sales! With Everlane credit from an earlier return, I ordered their new linen jumpsuit (similar from Quince). It arrived yesterday and is close to perfect but not quite. It fits me well in the hips and legs but is much too big for my top half. Back it goes! And after trying to decide on a simple belt bag I finally ordered this one*. I was really hoping it would arrive before we left for the weekend, but sadly it won’t be here until Tuesday. Not to worry; I’ll have plenty of other opportunities to wear it this summer!

What are your plans for the holiday weekend (or regular weekend, depending on where you live)?
