Oh, Happy, Happy Weekend. For a short week, this certainly felt like a long one.

I always need a recovery weekend after a weekend away, and today we’ve made plans to be only semi-productive. We’ll head to the gym shortly, and then come home to do a little cleaning around the house (which gets neglected when we’re away) and finally do some grocery shopping – all at a snail’s pace. Today marks two weeks since the last time we went to the grocery store, which might just be a record for us. I’m looking forward to fresh fruits and veggies for sure, although I’ve been impressed by how long bagged spinach and apples can last!

Our next trip is a simple beach getaway to celebrate Michael’s birthday. The Airbnb has been booked, and that’s just about all the planning we need to do! I’m looking forward to parking the car and staying put for the weekend. We made sure to pick a spot within walking distance of the beach, plenty of restaurants, and a brewery. And if we decide we want to go further afield? We can always rent a bike. And with that, here are this week’s links:

Travel

Iceland is feeling the effects of Wow Air’s shuttering.

Have $20,000 to spare? You can take an “Around the World” tour by train over the course of about two months, starting and ending in Chicago (but somehow missing the entire continents of Africa and South America in the process…). Would you do something like this if you could?

Signe’s packing list for Oslo has me yearning for a return visit! We visited long before I started blogging, but I remember being so excited to fill my suitcase with allllll the black, white, and grey I owned.

Forever wanting to spend the most time at my destination, I’m the late traveler.

A blogger shares her thoughts on the twenty safest cities in Europe for solo female travelers. Do you agree with her picks?

Previously… Two years ago I almost died after eating a Sugar Shack brunch in Montreal (okay, not really, but also it’s kinda sort of true) and one year ago we met some mermaids.

Life & Home

Here’s a ridiculous thing that I’d want in my yard but would probably never use because it is just. too. hot.

We’re headed to visit Michael’s family tomorrow to celebrate a multitude of holidays, like birthdays, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day. I plan on bringing this cake along, topped with organic rose petals I just purchased at the farmer’s market.

We enjoyed a Juicy Lucy (or Jucy Lucy, depending on who’s doing the spelling) while in Minneapolis – and the NYT just released a recipe so we can recreate it at home.

I think it’s time to move.

Every Friday I check the East Fork site obsessively to enter their weekly giveaway. One of these days…

Madewell is offering an additional 20% off sale items, which means there are some really great deals to be found! I haven’t purchased anything (yet) but am tempted by this easy summer shirt. You might have noticed that more Madewell (and similar brands) have crept back into my wardrobe, and Andrea so eloquently put into words my similar thoughts. I’m still fully committed to brands that are sustainable and treat their workers fairly but am also willing to support big businesses that are on track to do the right thing, like Madewell.

Everlane just launched its ReKnit Day Glove, which is a nice, simple flat made from recycled water bottles. I feel like this is a better use of recycled plastic than fleece and other garments because the fibers are less likely to be washed away. But I think I’m going to save my money for the Woven Sandals, which will be released at the end of June.

Brass Clothing just started its referral program, which means now is a good time to make a purchase if you’ve been considering something! You can take $30 off your first $75 purchase using that link, and then pass on those same savings to your friends and family. Some good travel-friendly options include the Nonstop Top (available in sizes XXS-3X) and the Sleeveless Sheath. [Edit: Brass has since shuttered]

Yes, they’re trendy and everywhere, but the string bag I purchased a couple of years ago is still going strong and has been indispensable on trips. It fits right into my purse yet can hold so much. Do you carry a reusable bag when you travel?

Loved this fascinating look into Eileen Fisher.

Things I bought this week

1. Silk Tank, Eileen Fisher | 2. Nashville Travel Kit, Aesop

Just two! And I feel it’s fair to note that I’ve returned/relisted much of what I’ve purchased over the past few weeks due to fit or garments arriving damaged, which is fine with me.

This week I ordered a silk tank from Eileen Fisher secondhand. You may remember that I’m trying to replace my Airism innerwear with garments made from natural fabrics. Synthetic garments that wick sweat away from the body are great and all – until you reach the point where they absorb odor that can’t be washed out (even if you don’t live in an absurdly hot climate, you probably have noticed this phenomenon with your gym clothes).

If the article above isn’t enough to convince you that Eileen Fisher garments are worth their high price, there’s a thriving secondhand market where you can find those same garments for a mere fraction of their original cost. I personally find it somewhat hard to justify purchasing EF items at full price when there are so many available on Poshmark and eBay (among other places).

And with those savings, I ordered this Aesop Travel Kit. It’s very extra, I know, but I told myself that I would allow myself to order a set of their travel-sized products to use and refill once I finished working my way through the set of miscellaneous samples I’ve amassed over the years. That shoebox is nearly empty, so I strategically placed an order on Forward using their 10% off your first order promo code (that’s FWRD10).

Yes, I could have purchased a set of refillable bottles for half the price, but I like that everything is already labeled and that almost all of the bottles can be refilled. So there.

(and yes, I’m clearly trying to convince myself that this will be worth it!).

How often do you go grocery shopping?
