A plate of bean + soy-chorizo tacos on homemade corn tortillas

Where did August go?

This month has passed in a blur, but Michael and I have one more flight ahead of us before it turns September. We just booked a flight to Raleigh for Labor Day weekend – we’ve been so busy that I totally forgot about the holiday, and by yesterday cheap flights were scarce for the long weekend. Any recommendations in The Triangle?

Today we’ll be booking an Airbnb for the trip, and I’ll be working on the blog a bit – and hopefully sending out a newsletter at some point! But for now, here are some interesting things from around the web:

Travel

Nicely done, Delta.

There’s a great discussion in the comments section of this post from Cup of Jo on travel shoes. What shoes are you sporting these days?

They probably would have been caught sooner if they were flying…

I love Signe’s sustainable travel guide for Copenhagen (we’ve gotta get back there one day!).

I took a leap and applied for the Chase Sapphire Preferred card for the great travel benefits. I figured now is as good a time as any, as I know there are some bigger purchases on the horizon (like a phone, ugh) and I want to hit that signup bonus in the next three months. I look forward to finally getting into the credit card points game and learning about travel hacking! Any tips?

Previously… Two years ago I shared a packing list for a late-summer weekend in Nashville and how we search for flights; last year we visited St. Louis, Missouri and I shared my packing list for that visit as well!

Life & Home

This should be an interesting launch for Target (but doesn’t it kind of remind you of the Goop branding?).

I’m pretty grateful I’m not a teenager in this day and age (site closed).

This hurts my heart. If you’re from the U.S. and are eligible to vote, don’t skip your next trip to the polls. In the meantime – donate!

“Is this recyclable?” Here are your answers.

This week we made corn tortillas on the comal we brought back with us from Mexico City (and then we made tacos of course – pictured above). Are you lucky enough to have a tortilleria nearby? Or have you attempted to make your own?

Style

Sale Alert!:

  • Today onlyEverlane is offering free two-day shipping so you can receive your items in time for the holiday weekend!
  • Size-inclusive denim maker Warp + Weft is offering 40% off all items on their site with code SUMMER40 (I can’t help being a sucker for their denim styles, which are named after airport codes).
  • Nisolo is holding its end-of-season sale with products for men and women. I’m so tempted by the Huarache Sandals and the Isla Slides (note: you can save 20% on your first Nisolo order with code WAYWARD20).
  • Tradlands is holding a Summer Sale, and the percentage discount will increase as time goes on (but expect the stock to drop!). If you’re eyeing something, it may be worth picking up sooner than risking it disappearing later.
  • The items on sale over at Reformation are now up to 70% off (whoa!).

I’m intrigued by this new collection from Cole Haan, especially these sneakers. If they deliver on their comfort promise, I bet they’d be good travel shoes!

I made the mistake of clicking through to Glossier to see if anything has been added to their site in the last few months (I’ve basically been trying to force myself to live under a makeup/skincare rock and finish what I have before ordering anything new). I use Boy Brow daily, and I’m curious about Brow Flick – has anyone tried it?

Things I bought this week

photo from GLDN - model is wearing a disk necklace

Just one thing this week: an easy-to-wear coin necklace. I ordered the necklace above in a smooth finish from GLDN (though I’m also really drawn to their hammered finish – I may have to order a second), because it seems like a great necklace for travel. It’s classic and effortless, which is exactly how I like to dress when we’re off exploring.

And a thing I ordered and returned this week: this Everlane bodysuit. Once I received the in-stock notification I placed an order right away. The fit just felt off for my body type (somewhere between an hourglass and a pear, with narrow shoulders), and it was a tad too short for my frame (I’m only 5’4″). Back it went!

Are you enjoying these final weeks of summer? Or are you itching for fall to begin?
