A Journal on a Wednesday? Sure, why not, since I seem to have completely lost track of what day it is!
If you’ve been following along on Instagram, you probably already know that Michael and I are still in Raleigh, even though we were scheduled to return home on Monday. Our flight from Raleigh back to Orlando was canceled the day before, but we weren’t officially notified of that fact until I phoned in.
So then we were rebooked on another flight on Wednesday (today) that was canceled last night. With the airline unable to book us on another flight until Friday (while also refusing to pay for lodging or meals, because we don’t have those protections here in the U.S.), we rebooked with another carrier to another airport for a flight home tomorrow.
Trust me, it’s been a whole thing—and I promise I’ll document it all in a blog post once our feet are firmly back on Florida sand. We’ve learned a lot through this process!

So, besides preparing for a hurricane, visiting the airport more times than is necessary, and praying that my boss isn’t too mad when I return, here’s what I’ve been reading around the web in the past week or so:
Travel
The case for traveling with kids.
Getaway is running a promo right now, with a discount on two- or three-night stays in their well-equipped cabins, located within driving distance from major U.S. cities. You can take $40 off two-night stays with code ESCAPE40 and $75 off three-night stays with code ESCAPE75.

Previously… Two years ago I shared about having tea at the Boston Public Library and a Fall Style Wishlist (looking back, I’ve ordered almost all of the items on that list—some exact matches, and a few similar styles). Last year as part of our “Year of Florida” we we went tubing down the Ichetucknee River—and of course, I had to share!

Food
Please do not let my boyfriend see this.
I recently discovered that Bloomingdales offers the best price on Chemex filters (no one in my city sells them anymore!)—just in case you’ve started brewing with this method. [Update: Bloomies no longer sells them, so I buy them at World Market now]
Well, this is good timing (more on that later!).
What is the difference between cornmeal, grits, and polenta?
Aww, the sweetest ice cubes!

Life & Home
How to help the people of the Bahamas (NYT gifted article).
We’ve been watching La Casa del Papel (titled “Money Heist” in English) on Netflix and it’s been a fun and engaging watch! It creates an interesting tug-of-war for whose side you’re on: the cops or the robbers. (Oh, and a quick tip: Netflix states the show contains three parts, which makes it seem like a short time commitment—it’s actually three seasons, not three episodes!)
What (or who) have you been “unfluenced” by?
I enjoyed following Luxe’s lamp saga. We definitely own a lot of college and first-job furniture (i.e. lots of Ikea and other inexpensive pieces), and one day hope to upgrade things a little at a time. This is a good reminder to seek out what you want the first time, and how to persist in getting it.

Style
I feel like I always say this, but I’m kind of obsessed with Vetta’s new capsule: The Refined Capsule. I don’t have room in my closet or budget to buy the whole thing at this time, but I’ve bookmarked The Two Piece Midi Dress and The Textured Shell to my “shopping” tab. I like to review what I’ve bookmarked from time to time to see what I’ve saved and what I’m still interested in. Just saving things to a list is a helpful tool to combat the feeling that I might “miss out” on something, and is a great exercise for determining what is a fleeting want versus a true desire. [update: Vetta is now closed]

Things I bought this week
So far, I’ve just ordered and kept this Outdoor Voices tank, partially using store credit. I wore it to a barre/core/yoga class, and while I can’t report on how it performs in a really hot, intense workout, I felt happy and comfortable with the feel and fit. It’s comfortably loose with a little breathing room, yet didn’t slide up past my midriff in poses like downward dog.
And I’ve also gone ahead and ordered a Guppyfriend bag to start washing our workout clothes in (along with the other handful of synthetic garments we own) once it arrives. For whatever reason, I love cleaning the lint filter in my dryer (is that weird?), and I’m curious to see what collects in the wash bag.
Have you ever experienced multiple flight cancellations?
