August is more than halfway over, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t freaking out. Where on earth does the time go?

It’s lovely to be home this weekend, one of only a couple of weekends at home over the next two months. Michael and I are taking care of my brothers (12 and 14) for part of the weekend. It’s nice to spend time with them, but I understand why parents complain that their children grow up too fast! The oldest one is beginning his first year of high school—the same grade I was in when he was born.

Enough fretting about lost time; here’s what we’ve done with the time I’ve found this week:

Life

We read the NPR article about how to bend (or rather hinge) correctly several months back; here’s a new one about how to sit better. Whether you sit all day at a desk or on a plane, adjusting how you are seated can help alleviate back pain.

Here’s a great guide to zero-waste grocery shopping.

Oh thank goodness we don’t have a cat or I wouldn’t have enough money to travel.

Food

Is it Christmas yet?

I love a good mug of golden milk, but it is a bit of a pain to gather all of the ingredients to make it. Here’s a simple recipe for a pre-made mix to speed things along when you’re craving a cup of soothing goodness (psstI like to add a little cardamom in mine!).

Once it’s less humid, I look forward to making meringue desserts again (just look at this beautiful pavlova!).

Travel

Need a new book to read? Here is a selection of thrillers, mapped by setting.

Denmark claps back at Fox News, and it’s amazing. Have you been to Denmark? After visiting and doing lots of reading up on their happiness rankings, I definitely get it.

I don’t follow many blogs where the writer quit their job “and now I travel to all of these famous places all the time and have zero cares in the world!” My feet are firmly planted in reality, so I know the sunshine and roses are typically painted into their Instagram photos. Here’s an interesting insight into the world of digital nomads.

Style

What are your thoughts on the return of Memphis Milano?

Things I bought this week

This was a much more expensive purchasing week than I hoped, particularly with two international trips on the horizon, but I suppose that is the way things go!

For our upcoming trip to Europe, I picked up a Moleskine journal for us to jot down our thoughts each day (you can read my post about the importance of keeping a travel journal if you’d like).

I stocked up on Boy Brow during last year’s Black Friday sale, but I guess I didn’t quite get enough tubes to last me a year so I just reordered two more (curious what the fuss is about? Head here to see it in action as part of my travel makeup routine).

After stalking for certain items and selling a few things on Noihsaf Bazaar I finally made my first purchase: a secondhand Madelyn Sweater* from Only Child.

And after sifting through other resale sites for months, I finally ordered a pair of secondhand Clydes from Elizabeth Suzann in cotton canvas. I’m between sizes on the size chart, so I’m not fully confident these will work, but I am certainly hopeful.

I ordered a slew of raincoats through Amazon Prime Wardrobe (not pictured) and also one via Everlane with store credit. I’m still on the fence: I want a mid-weight rain jacket for the cooler temps we’ll be experiencing in Europe next month, but it’s tough to find one that fits properly throughout the whole coat (Goldilocks, here!). Do you have a favorite rain jacket?

Summer’s at its end—are you planning any Fall or Winter trips? Have a great week!
