An honest review of Quince's Washable Stretch Silk Tank Midi Dress.
Hi, my name is Alyssa, and I’m kind of obsessed with fabrics.
Whew, I’m glad to get that off my chest.
But can you blame me for being picky about what I choose to wear? Aesthetics aside, what we place next to our skin has a major impact on our comfort level (I mean, have you ever sweated through a polyester top in a job interview?). As someone who travels frequently and finds herself in many environments, I’ve learned over the years that my body is happiest in natural fibers, and in clothing that works for all kinds of scenarios.

So when I caught sight of the Washable Stretch Silk Tank Midi Dress from Quince, happy alarm bells sounded in my brain.
The styling versatility of the brand’s slip dress (reviewed here) in one of my favorite fabrics, but bra-friendly? Sign me up!

I quickly placed an order for a size Small, hoping the sizing for Quince’s dresses remained consistent, and crossing my fingers the whole time.
Thankfully I didn’t have to leave them crossed for long – the dress arrived on my doorstep just three days later, and I immediately put it on.
My Review of the Silk Tank Midi Dress
The Silk Tank Midi Dress is so close to perfect that I almost decided to keep it, but in the end, I returned it (we all deserve clothing that is well-made and works for our bodies!). Why? Well, a few reasons:
The Fit
I would say that the Small is my correct size off the rack, but that doesn’t mean it fits.
Like many column dresses, this one is a bit loose in the bust yet hugs my hips and bum a little too closely (c’mon, give a girl some room!).
The Fabric
Unlike the slip dress, which is made from 100% silk, this version is crafted from 90% mulberry silk and has 10% spandex for added stretch. Great! We love being able to bend and move comfortably.
My issue isn’t with the small percentage of spandex – it’s with the opacity. In my admittedly poorly-lit home, it’s not a big deal. But step into the sunshine, and you can see everything (including where the sun shouldn’t be shining if you know what I mean). And if it were a little thicker, I might like the fit a little better, too.
The Fuss
According to Quince, this dress is machine-washable.
But because the fabric is so thin, I worry about it snagging on another item in the wash (even in a mesh bag!), and ultimately I would choose to hand-wash it.
That’s not a deal-breaker for me, but you know what is? The fuss of choosing special undergarments so everything lays flat and feels appropriately covered.
Final Thoughts on Quince’s Washable Stretch Silk Tank Midi Dress
Sometimes I feel more frustrated when a retailer almost hits the mark than when they barely even try. Just think, all of this beautiful silk, woven into a fabric that is too thin and delicate to be comfortably worn as a dress. It feels like a waste, right?
But there’s a silver lining, at least for me personally: I found that I really do like the idea of a midi tank dress, and think it would be a great addition to my travel wardrobe. So, I’m still on the hunt, I suppose!

I love a great summer dress paired with sneakers! This seems like a really great, and versatile piece.
Thanks for this review! I have been eyeing this dress, but was worried it would show all my underwear lines. Didn’t even think about how thin the material might be. Your review helped me decide to keep looking for a similar dress, as well.
Happy to share! If you find a better alternative, I’d love to hear about it!
