Sharing my honest review of the Italian Wool Double-Breasted Coat from Quince
Brr…
I’m not sure what the weather is like in your neck of the woods, but here in Charlotte, things are pretty chilly.
Wondering whether or not you need a third piece when running errands or heading out to dinner is no longer a question – yes, you do need a jacket. The only decision that remains is what kind. My style skews overwhelmingly classic, and a camel coat is a natural match for most of my wardrobe – but I’ve only recently added one to my wardrobe.
Why is that? Well, there are actually two reasons it has taken this long to add one to my closet:
1. The price, and
2. The fit.
I spent years longing for a quality coat from high-end brands like Max Mara and more accessible (yet still pricey) alternatives like The Curated, searching high and low for secondhand versions with no luck.
What camel coats I did find in thrift shops and consignment stores were usually vintage, with proportions that didn’t suit my curvy figure.
So when one of my go-to brands for accessibly-priced clothing launched a small batch of wool coats, I knew I’d have to give them a try.
This post contains commissionable links and Quince generously gifted the Italian Wool Double-Breasted Coat for today's post. But as always, I'll only ever share my honest opinion with you.
Of Quince’s sub-$200 wool coats that fit my preferences (wool-based, camel-toned, button closure, and calf-length), the Italian Wool Double-Breasted Coat called to me the most.
After months of wear (including traveling with it!), I’m finally ready to share my review of this coat with you today:
ABOUT THE ITALIAN WOOL DOUBLE-BREASTED COAT
The Italian Wool Double-Breasted Coat is a traditional tailored double-breasted wool coat. It comes in seven classic colorways: Black, Heather Charcoal, Caramel, Cadet (a deep navy), Dark Chocolate, Heather Macadamia, and Dark Camel (reviewed here).
Unlike many modern coats, this one is majority wool; according to the label, the coat’s 80% wool content is sourced from Italy and the coat is constructed in China in a Sedex-certified factory, according to Quince.

I should note that the coat I received has a few notable differences from the information listed on the website. First of all, the pockets are inaccurately listed as “Two slanted side hand pockets” but instead, they have a horizontal flap closure. The lining is also different than what my tag states; according to the website, this coat has a 100% polyester lining. The tag on my coat indicates the lining is a 55% polyester/45% viscose blend.
I also was a tiny bit surprised by the color; to me, the color is darker than I expected (it’s closer to the colors of the close-up shots than the full-body images on the product page. In the end, I find this makes it more wearable for me as it’s less prone to spills and stains (I mean, have you ever tempted fate with a white tee on an important day?).
ITALIAN WOOL DOUBLE-BREASTED COAT SIZING
Quince sizing can be a bit of a gamble, but my most common letter size in the brand is Small, which is what I went for here. If you’re between sizes, I recommend taking your smaller size in the Italian Wool Double-Breasted Coat. Currently, this coat is available in sizes XS-XL; I would love to see offered in their extended size range someday, which is slowly but surely expanding.
HOW TO STYLE THE ITALIAN WOOL DOUBLE-BREASTED COAT
Any time I write a review for you here, I always try to capture the garment with a classic outfit that keeps the focus on the piece in question; but frankly, it really doesn’t matter because this coat gets all the attention anyway.
A great coat makes for a great outfit – you can style this camel number with an elegant dress for a night out just as easily as you can throw it on over a matching sweat set to dash off to the school drop-off. No matter how you choose to wear this coat, it will instantly elevate your outfit.
Oh – don’t forget to pick the seams at the pockets and the tack stitching at the back vent before you head out the door (you’re meant to, I promise!).
IS THE ITALIAN WOOL DOUBLE-BREASTED COAT FROM QUINCE WORTH IT?
Overall, I’m quite impressed with the quality of this coat: It’s structured, yet it moves fluidly with me. It matches my lifestyle and the rest of my wardrobe. It looks and feels expensive – like it will be around for decades. It’s warm enough for those 45-59°F days (and I can squeeze a thin liner underneath when the temperature drops a little more). It has an interior pocket(!).
But, it’s not perfect (is anything?). There’s a bit more fabric to contend with as it’s a double-breasted coat, and it’s a little oversized on my shoulders and long in the arm (at 5’4″, this is the norm for me), yet if I sized down it would be too snug in the hips and bum. But I find the positives far outweigh these issues here.
It’s true that at $189.90 (at the time of writing), a coat like this can feel a bit like an investment – so when deciding whether or not something is “worth it,” I find it’s helpful to ask myself if I would purchase that item again. Although Quince kindly sent this coat at my request, if I woke up tomorrow to find this coat missing from my wardrobe, I wouldn’t hesitate to reorder it.
FINAL THOUGHTS ON QUINCE WOOL OUTERWEAR
Despite some differences between the listing and the final product, so far I’ve found Quince’s wool coats to be a good value (that is, what I consider to be a good bang for your buck).
Other wool coats currently on offer include the Italian Wool Double-Breasted Slouch Coat, Italian Wool Cocoon Coat, and the Italian Wool Classic Single-Breasted Coat (and for those with a larger outerwear budget than my own, there’s the stunning 100% Mongolian Cashmere Double-Faced Wrap Coat – side note, I’m open to being adopted!). As always, Quince purchases are pretty risk-free thanks to their generous return policy.
