2018 Spring Travel Style Wish List

A field of flowers with text overlay that reads "travel wish list spring"

Tomorrow is the first day of Spring!

Surprisingly, Florida has a very short Spring season – we typically go from Winter straight into Summer, with only a few days of pleasant weather between.

For some reason, we were blessed with what felt like an actual Spring this year (maybe as a reward for surviving the hurricanes last Fall?), and it has me longing for destinations with more sunshine and lighter hues without the sweltering temps we’re expected to face in the coming weeks.

Today I’m sharing a few items that caught my eye for the warm and sunny (and rainy, too) travel days ahead. Shall we?

SPRING 2018 TRAVEL STYLE

A clever bamboo bag

Bamboo Bag

This bamboo (read: lightweight) bag will carry you from Spring all the way through the start of Fall. With enough space to carry your essentials to the beach, the bar, and then on to dinner, I believe this would be an indispensable piece for seasons to come. The best part? The bag opens flat, which makes packing and stowing it a breeze. You just may want to watch out for any small items you are carrying that may slip through the cracks; I would use this as an opportunity to display some of my cuter canvas pouches inside!

A pair of flats that are sure to spice up an outfit

A red-orange suede mule
Suede Mule

I love this ethical brand both for what it stands for and because its products are on point, and a visit to its showroom last August amplified that. This spicy paprika color is everywhere this Spring, and while it’s a little too much for me to wear in large doses, I love adding bright colors in small pops – like on my shoes. This suede mule is perfect for these transitional Spring days, and it seems that the mule trend isn’t going away anytime soon. I suspect I would wear these even as Winter approaches.

A lounge day staple

A navy folding wooden chair
Wood & Canvas Compact Folding Travel Chair

How perfect is this travel chair? I would love to pick up a few of these to bring to the beach, sporting events, concerts, campsites, or even just for use in our backyard with friends. The style is so simple, but functional, minimal design is my favorite.

A bit of eye-candy

Tubes of shiny liquid eyeshadow
Liquid Eye Shadow

While I don’t believe all of the hype surrounding this brand, I am extremely happy with my brow product and would like to give these new eyeshadows a try. According to the website, these shadows are supposed to have a glowing, veil-like effect on your eyes, and stay put for twelve hours. It takes a lot for a product to earn a place in my quart bag, but if these live up to the claim, they might be a contender.

A one-piece wonder

Colorblock One-Piece

Since I burn really easily (and okay, I really like eating tacos), sometimes a one-piece is necessary. I avoided them for a long time, because I felt they added about twenty years onto my age, but I’m really impressed with the strides made in the past few years. I really love the back detailing on this colorblock one from one of my favorite undergarment brands.

Totes organized

Tote Organization Insert

I ordered a Classic Zippered Tote back in January, and have been bringing it back and forth to work each day and have also used it on a few overnights since then. To organize, I’ve had to use my own pouches, which fit a little awkwardly inside. It seems like they just released the answer to my travel problem: a removable organization insert. I like the blush color (which makes it easier to locate things inside) and the various pouches, which would be perfect for sorting clothes and accessories inside. The metal ring inside is perfect for clipping their lipstick case and femme pouch onto, though I don’t think I will purchase those additions (combined the price is about as much as my last plane ticket). Instead, I will use it to clip my car keys onto (no more digging!).

[Edit: I purchased and reviewed this item]

Seamingly perfect denim

The Seam Jean

I’m looking to step outside of my jean-comfort zone a little this Spring (I still love you, skinnies!), and I think these unique jeans are a great way to do that. A lot is going on with these jeans: the raw hem, unique seam lines, and the single missing back pocket make these the ultimate warm-weather jeans. Plus, the slightly tapered fit doesn’t deviate too far from my skinnies, so it’s a pretty natural progression. I’d love to try these with lots of different shoes, like heels, flats, and sandals, and throw in a silk cami for when the temp really rises.

A little help braving the elements

As Spring turns to Summer, Florida begins yet another warm, rainy season. Bright sunny days suddenly turn dark, and torrential rain drops from the sky. But here’s the thing – it lasts for all of 45 minutes, and suddenly it’s beautiful out again, much to the surprise of visitors. It’s all we can do to just shake our heads at the folks who exit the theme parks for the day because the rain has begun; it’s over quickly, and you’re left with much shorter lines and a happier experience.

I have a myriad of umbrellas, and a pair of rain boots that I love, but I don’t yet own a lightweight raincoat for when it’s hot and rainy (which is wild because I have one for cold weather). I’d love a Stutterheim one day, but this one from another Scandi brand is a bit more in my budget.

A pop of color

An orange zippered wallet
Zip Wallet

Yet another piece in paprika, and it’s beautiful. Canadian brand The Stowe [edit: now defunct] is well-known for its structured, well-made, minimalist accessories, and the Zip Wallet  is no exception. It’s not billed as a travel wallet, but according to the dimensions should accommodate a passport. The slip pockets, card pockets, and zippered coin pouch would help organize more than one currency, all while storing multiple credit cards and insurance cards – necessary when traveling internationally.

A travel-ready fragrance

A fragrance rollerball
Fragrance

I don’t recall seeing this product when we visited the brand’s boutique in the West Village, but I think it’s such a neat concept. The formula is alcohol-free (which is great for me – I have a slight allergy to alcohol in certain products like fragrances and hand sanitizer), and a travel-friendly rollerball size. I am drawn to the Fleur d’Oranger scent (I even make orange flower ice cream sometimes), but truly all of their scents are incredible.

Chic linen pants

I’ve had my eye on this brand’s products for a while, and I am really impressed with their production practices. I’d like to order a piece or two to wear while the weather is warm, but my biggest issue has simply been trying to decide on what to get because I want all of it.

I think I’ve finally selected my first item, these tapered linen pants, which will be perfect for our upcoming trip to Mexico. Breathable linen is a must in our hot, humid climate. If I decide to wear these to work, I’ll likely have to keep a bottle of wrinkle releaser at my desk, as the fabric is prone to wrinkle easily.

FINAL THOUGHTS ON WHAT TO WEAR THIS SPRING

Are we sensing a theme here?

This Spring my eye is on ocean blue hues and bold pops of paprika, all toned down with a bit of soft neutrals. Time will tell if these pieces make their way into my wardrobe, but I hope I’ve provided you with some bold inspiration for your Spring closet.

  1. I’ve been eying Linenfox too! I’m interested to hear how you like their pants. I’ve pretty much just accepted wrinkles as a fashion statement because I’m too lazy to iron 😉 But maybe I’ll get a bottle of crease release instead.

    1. Yes to being too lazy to iron! I ditched mine in favor of a steamer a few years ago and never looked back. Will keep you posted re: Linenfox; I plan on emailing them because I have a few sizing questions, but I’m really excited to place my order. Thanks for stopping by!
